Studio Ghibli | 1985 - 2014
After recent rumors of Studio Ghibli closing their animation department and the low box office numbers for When Marnie Was There, it was time to make an appreciation post for a company that has created true movie magic again and again. So, thank you, Studio Ghibli. Hopefully it isn’t good-bye just yet. Studio Ghibli is no longer producing animated films. So here’s to you, Ghibli, and everything you’ve given us.
Studio Ghibli’s animation software will be made available via open source this month.
That’s right…💯% free.

This is a BIG DEAL, folks.
Animation software is, by and large, very expensive and out of the range of most people seeking to get into animation. As of March 26th, this software will become open source and available to all prospective animators!
Spread the word!
“Studio Ghibli’s Goro Miyazaki (Ronia the Robber’s Daughter, Tales from Earthsea, From Up On Poppy Hill) revealed at a talk show event on June 16 that his father, Studio Ghibli co-founder Hayao Miyazaki, is making a CG-animated short for the Ghibli Museum.
Studio Ghibli co-founder Toshio Suzuki also revealed at a lecture in Tokyo on July 10 that the short will be 10-minutes long, but added that it took three years to complete. The new work will be Hayao Miyazaki’s first CG-animated work.”

“The 74-year-old director of critically animated masterpieces like Spirited Away, Ponyo, Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro, and many, many other films worth your time announced plans for a new, hands-on project - a forest retreat for children. The project, set to be completed by 2018 on the island of Kumejima (near Okinawa), is said to be inspired by the works of his production company Studio Ghibli, instantly filling everyone’s hearts with impassioned glee.
The project will be created by local industries, using only local products, with $2.5 million in funding provided directly from Miyazaki. Never stop giving, never stop creating.”
